Cafe El Tapatio is a Chicago Staple for Authentic Mexican Cuisine and Drink, serving quality food since 1974. I decided to rebrand this to make the brand look more cohesive and match the vibe of the restaurant.

What the Restaurant has?

- Vibe and elements that can be used into the branding
- Daily specials and happy hours
- Welcoming, rustic and comfortable atmosphere for people to hangout
- Patio that is equally elegant as the insides
- Catering and kids menu too
- Events as per the festive

What I can help improve?

- Consistent brand guidelines - including recognizable color, fonts and illustrations that match the vibe
- Making the logo and website, social handles that are consistent for
both locations
- Interactive menus

Redesign Goal

My Goal for Redesign would be to make the brand consistent and the experience cohesive, basically help it match the vibe of the restaurant.
To come up with digital interactive menus making ordering simple and a fun interactive expereince piece at the restaurant.

Discovery

Research

What does Tapatio mean?
“Tapatío” is the name given to people from Guadalajara, just like the founders. The sauce has medium heat, and is made with red peppers, vinegar, garlic, and spices.

Tapatío is a Mexican Spanish colloquial term for someone from downtown Guadalajara in the state of Jalisco, Mexico's second largest city. It is also used as an adjective for anything associated with Guadalajara or the highlands of Jalisco.

Target Audience

Since it’s a local hangout place, aiming at a target audience could be more localites and also family oriented.

But also, considering their happy hours and a very affordable menu,
I am aiming for more young millennials who would need a local hangout place for a weekend/ for casual drinks and fun.

Logo design

I started sketching a few logo directions based on the mood board and word list.

Tried a few logo illustrations and finalized this direction.

Brand Guidelines 

Defined Clearspace, minimum size, colors, typeface and logo variants for the brand.

Illustrated custom icons to be used in interactive menus and branding overall.

Interaction Design

Interactive Menu

Designed the interactive menu for the restaurant to be displayed on the tablet.

Website Design

Decided the key points to be displayed on the restaurant's website. A way to display clearly the two locations and its' reservations. Also to promote the events that they hold at each location on their website along with their social media handles.

Ideation
Piñatas are commonly associated with Mexico and are a traditional part of mexican culture.
The intention was to create a virtual Piñata to revive the culture and tradition which goes very well with the restaurant’s concept of fun and family.

Summary

Following the brand guidelines - logo, color, type and patterns created in step one and applying it to all the Branding assets, I achieved my goal making the brand cohesive and memorable for the customers. The restaurant branding matches its vibe and attracts the right set of target audience we declared earlier.
